Desktop & Lighting Control

MediaManager - Media-Aware DMX Lighting Control Desktop App

MediaManager is an Electron + React + TypeScript desktop light-show controller that imports audio/video files, analyzes the audio (waveform, BPM/beat, pitch/spectral features), and outputs DMX512 lighting cues synchronized to media playback via USB-DMX, Art-Net and sACN (E1.31) across up to 4 universes (2048 channels) - a QLC+/production lighting suite with fixture patching, a virtual console, timeline/cue management, and 3D stage visualization.

01 Overview

MediaManager is an Electron + React + TypeScript desktop light-show controller that imports audio/video files, analyzes the audio (waveform, BPM/beat, pitch/spectral features), and outputs DMX512 lighting cues synchronized to media playback via USB-DMX, Art-Net and sACN (E1.31) across up to 4 universes (2048 channels) - a QLC+/production lighting suite with fixture patching, a virtual console, timeline/cue management, and 3D stage visualization.

Scope of delivery

Built MediaManager, a music-synchronized DMX lighting console as a desktop app. Implemented media import and audio analysis (waveform, BPM/beat, pitch), a custom real-time DMX512 engine with USB/Art-Net/sACN output, fixture patching, virtual console, timeline cue management, external MIDI/OSC control, and 3D stage visualization.

Engineering approach

Used an Electron main/renderer split where the renderer runs a high-priority DmxEngine frame loop (double-buffered 512-channel, 20-44 Hz configurable, watchdog fail-safe) and the main process talks to real hardware (serialport USB-DMX, UDP Art-Net/sACN, OSC) over a context-isolated IPC preload bridge. Media analysis is computed with FFmpeg/FFprobe plus in-browser DSP (autocorrelation BPM, spectral/transient features) feeding an audio-reactive auto-lighting pipeline.
